When Do You Need Denture?
Losing multiple teeth due to any factor can cause a major problem for people. Not only are they missing a large part of their teeth, but the loss makes the mouth lose its structure and the smile to lose its shape. It’s a huge problem that is fortunately curable.
The recommended solution to having lost a number of teeth is with the inclusion of dentures, also known as bridges. Dentures are prosthetics that bridge the gap between teeth. They are used to replace consecutive open spaces. Dentures are built to conform to the shape of a person’s mouth and are crafted from durable materials that will last for a long time to come.

The Types of Dentures
Bridges are typically of two different kinds:
Traditional
Traditional dentures are deployed when a person is missing a single tooth instead of many. The denture is formed by an artificial tooth, known as pontic. The pontic is flanked on either side by crowns that are known as abutment crowns. Set on the jaw using dental cement, the abutment crowns help set down the entire denture and keep it in place.
Implant supported denture
This kind of denture is typically deployed when a patient loses a number of teeth. As per its name, this kind of denture is set on dental implants. The implants are set into the open spaces and are allowed to fuse with the gums of a person over the course of a few months. Once the implants have firmly been planted inside the jaw, acting as actual roots, the denture is then attached. Although this process takes longer, its results are visible over a fairly long time.
The Benefits of Dentures
If you lose a number of your teeth all at once, you are bound to face a number of oral problems. Not only is it discomforting but it also changes the shape of your mouth. This affects your speech, your chewing, and your bite. Due to the differences between the upper and lower teeth, your bite is compromised in a condition known as malocclusion. Malocclusion can further cause a number of oral problems ranging from breaking of teeth to the TMJ disorder. If you want to save your mouth from such problems, while restoring your mouth’s shape and your smile to that of old, having dentures set in is the appropriate solution.
